Tishman's Badame New Chair of the Regional
Alliance for Small Contractors
Jay Badame ,
President and COO of
Tishman
Construction Corporation of New York,
New Jersey and Pennsylvania, has become The
Regional Alliance for Small Contractors'
(RASC) new Chairman. Badame takes on the
role once held by
John L.
Tishman, former Chairman of Tishman
Construction Corporation and one of the
founders of RASC in the 1990s.
RASC is a construction
industry organization that trains, promotes
and supports the development of small,
minority- and women-owned construction and
related businesses.
As a supporter of RASC since
its inception, Tishman Construction has
devoted professional staff members, who
serve as instructors, consultants and
advisers, to developing small, minority- and
womenowned businesses. Many of these firms
have gone on to perform admirably on such
signature Tishman projects as the Bank of
America Tower at One Bryant Park, which
recently was certified as the world's first
LEED Platinum skyscraper, and on the new 1
World Trade Center Tower, which will be New
York's tallest building.
Badame has more than 32
years of diversified construction industry
experience, including 25 years with Tishman.
He joined Tishman in 1985 as a Project
Engineer on the South Street Seaport project
in Manhattan. He rose through the ranks of
the organization and in 1993 was put in
charge of Tishman's New Jersey and
Pennsylvania operations.
As President and Chief
Operating Officer of Tishman Construction in
New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania,
Badame is playing a key role in such
landmark projects as the new One World Trade
Center, the World Trade Center
Transportation Hub, and the Trans-Hudson
Express Tunnel, a new rail passenger tunnel
linking New Jersey and midtown Manhattan. He
earned a BS in Civil Engineering from
Pennsylvania State University.
Regional Alliance programs,
particularly the training curriculum
entitled "Managing Growth" combined with
networking opportunities, have proven to
enable many participants to win substantial
contract awards. In "Case Studies of State
Minority Business Assistance Programs,"
which was commissioned by the U.S.
Department of Commerce and presented to the
Council of State Development Agencies, the
Regional Alliance's technical assistance
program was cited as "demonstrably effective
in positively impacting the behavior of
recipient firms, and it deserves to be
emulated throughout the country." The
Regional Alliance was a finalist ($25,000
award) in the Ford Foundation and John F.
Kennedy School of Government at Harvard
University's Innovations in State and Local
Government Program. The Alliance is also the
recipient of citations for outstanding
service from the Governors of New York and
New Jersey and the U.S. Small Business
Administration.

of New York, New
Jersey and Pennsylvania, has become its new
chairman. Badame takes on the role once held
by John L. Tishman, former chairman of
Tishman and one of the founders of RASC in
the 1990s. RASC is a construction industry

As a supporter of RASC since

“We welcome our long-time
friend and adviser, Jay Badame, as the new
chairman of the Regional Alliance,” says
Earle J. Walker, RASC executive director.
“We look forward to new initiatives and new
growth under Jay’s leadership.”
Outgoing RASC chairman Milo
E. Riverso, Ph.D., P.E., and president of
STV Group Inc., was also honored at a recent
membership meeting for his leadership and
support of the RASC.
“We look forward to
strengthening this mutually rewarding
enterprise that produces fine entrepreneurs,
fosters employment and invigorates
competition within the construction
industry,” Badame says. “My goal as chairman
is to strengthen RASC’s programs even
further, so that they are emulated
throughout the country and provide a
framework for a more competitive industry
nationwide.”
Badame has more than 32
years of diversified construction industry
experience, including 25 years with Tishman.
He joined Tishman in 1985 as a project
engineer on the South Street Seaport project

quickly rose through the ranks of the
organization by continuously demonstrating a
thorough understanding of how to manage work
effectively on a wide range of projects. In
1993, Badame was put in charge of Tishman’s
New Jersey and Pennsylvania operations. In
this role, he led Tishman’s efforts on
