The Regional Alliance conducts several events throughout the year for the purpose of recognizing significant accomplishments by our members or client organizations and to provide networking opportunities for members to meet key executives of prime contractors and other firms to explore business opportunities. Most events must be reserved in advance to assist with planning. RSVP can be through the below link or by calling the Regional Alliance at 212-268-2991. There is no charge for most training programs, workshops and seminars.  Payments for networking events, annual Charter Member dues and contributions may be sent to the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors, 625 8th Avenue, Second Floor, North Wing, New York, NY 10018. All checks must be made payable to: The Fund For the City of New York.

Participants will learn how to use the QB Navigator and menu bar to perform job accounting. The course not only covers how to record a job's time and material consumption, but how to summarize that information into a report. You will also use the Navigator to perform all aspects of basic bookkeeping.

The Construction Management Certificate program. This innovative program is sponsored by The Port Authority of NY & NJ.  The program will lead to a certificate in Construction Management and qualifies for 22.5 hours of continuing education (NYS Approval #C-1420).

The objective of this program is to present and discuss the management of construction projects during their accomplishment in the field. The coursework is designed for contractors, engineers, designers and others in the construction industry. The course covers the fundamentals of construction management which includes construction cost and estimating, blueprint reading, project scheduling and contract administration.

Participants must attend all four sessions to receive a certificate.

OSHA 30 Hour Program

The Regional Alliance for Small Contractors is offering the 30 Hour OSHA Training sponsored by NJ TRANSIT. This program is specifically designed for safety directors, foremen, field supervisors, and other personnel responsible for construction activities with an awareness of construction safety.  Upon successful completion and attendance at each session, participants will receive a U.S. Department of Labor OSHA construction safety and health 30 hour course completion card.
The program will be held in six (6) sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The 30-hour program is an OSHA approved course that trains participants on the requirements of the OSHA standards and construction work practices. This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry. The program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues and is designed to help you recognize safety hazards on the job.  See Registration Brochure (link below) for specific topics to be covered.

The participants will learn to use major menu bar functions such as Lists, Activities, Reports and Help. Standard accounting transactions will be reviewed to create invoices, apply cash, issue purchase orders, write checks and issue credits. You will learn how to create standard reports and graphs, how to delete transactions and correct errors. Prior experience with Intuit Quickbooks is required.

Blueprint Reading and Construction Cost Estimating

This intensive Blueprint Reading workshop will expose participants to the skills of understanding and reading architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical construction drawings.  Participants will also learn how construction drawings are used to implement the construction process.  They will get an overview of construction drawing basics and a thorough overview of the construction process from site work to foundations, structural, interiors and finishes. 

The Estimating  workshop will expose participants to the resources necessary to learn how to estimate the construction costs of building projects, making use of modern technology and following the methods employed by successful general contractors. The workshop is intended for the person who is beginning to learn the process of cost estimating in a construction organization. The workshop will also be of interest to construction managers, supervisors, and practicing estimators who, from time to time, may wish to refer to a source of estimating data.

This course covers more advanced features of Excel and how they can help you manage your financial information. You will learn how to create what if statements that analyze if spreadsheet data meets certain criteria. You will also learn how to create macros to perform a series of functions using a single command. You will also learn how to analyze and calculate large amounts of data using Pivot tables.

The Regional Alliance for Small Contractors in partnership with New Jersey Institute of Technologies is offering a Construction Management Certificate program. This innovative program, sponsored by NJ TRANSIT, will lead to a certificate in Construction Management and 1.6 Continuing Education Units to each student who successfully completes the course.
The objective of this program is to present and discuss the management of construction projects during their accomplishment in the field. The coursework is designed for contractors, engineers, designers and others in the construction industry. The course covers the fundamentals of construction management which includes construction cost and estimating, blueprint reading, project scheduling and contract administration.
Eligible candidates must be certified as Minority, Women, Small/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (M/W/S/DBE) with NJ TRANSIT. All others will be considered only if space is available.
Course Topics include: Blueprint Reading, Estimating, Project Scheduling and Contract Administration

In order to receive a certificate of completion, you MUST attend all four sessions from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Construction is a complex and constantly changing endeavor that can often be described as a "problem in progress." What separates the successful from the unsuccessful is the ability to timely and effectively deal with construction law problems. In this seminar, we will discuss some legal issues relating to construction projects that affect small businesses -- fundamentals of construction contracts, contract disputes, late payment/collections, construction lien law, etc.  Course is lead by Harry Chan of Wilson & Chan, a firm heavily involved in representing firms in all aspects of the construction industry
